In a reception of oocytes cycle, the oocytes from a donor are fertilised in the laboratory with spermatozoids from the husband/partner of the receiving woman or from a Semen Bank to later transfer the resulting embryos to the maternal uterus. In Spain, the reception of oocytes is totally anonymous. When selecting the donor, an attempt is made to find the greatest similarity possible with the woman receiving the eggs.
At present, and because of changes in our society, women tend to postpone becoming mothers until a more advanced age, reducing the possibility of conceiving spontaneously with their own oocytes. This is the main reason for the recent increase in the demand for this treatment.
The pregnancy rate in oocyte reception treatment is high, because the quality of the oocytes is very important when determining the prediction of IVF treatment.
